Edit: the game seems to have fixed itself after a reboot. The process is active and there is a task for it in the task bar but clicking on it or alt + tab into it won't show the game. I launch the game but it doesn't actually launch. I don't really know if I'd say it has that many puzzles, though, since they're mostly solved the same way (in that respect I'd say it has about as many/the caliber of Life is Strange, where story-essential puzzles mostly revolved around going to another location and hitting a button, or occasionally rewinding time to shove something somewhere.) It definitely gives the player far more agency or sense of agency than a walking simulator, though, which I feel are defined mostly by how it's the player moving along a pre-determined story and how much they get out of it is how much they've uncovered. Microsofts Games with Gold program has now made available the second round of free games for the month of September. i recently got the game and this is my first time trying to launch it. With that said, I think they're also very different games doing different things with stuff in common, so a direct comparison isn't perhaps fair to either game. In the battle of "Teen girls with androgynous names thrown into a spooky and/or supernatural situation in the Pacific Northwest" genre of story-based games that have proliferated since Gone Home, I personally like Oxenfree much more because the dialogue rings a lot more true to how at least my cohort talked, compared to Life is Strange.
